Can We Expect Massive Changes to Homeland Security? – You Bet We Can

December 08, 2016 - Yesterday, House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) gave his second annual state of homeland security address at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. There he announced a firm alignment with the massive upgrades proposed by President-elect Trump, including the building of a wall on the Southern border. In Chairman McCaul's address when he got to the issue of border security, he stated clearly "We will put in place a historic, multi-layered defense system so that drug cartels and terrorists don’t slip through the cracks. That means more Border Patrol agents, new authorities, aerial surveillance, sensors, and other technology to protect our territory. We will take a military-style approach to the problem by giving agencies the real command-and-control they need to get a handle on the situation.

Technology will surely play a large role in this massive overhaul and we hope the new administration chooses to look at proven security solutions in place throughout the country. We have all heard of the tremendous wastes of money that has been thrown at security. On the flip-side of that, there are numerous highly successful programs in place pulled together by small and veteran-owned businesses. These programs have taken real-world security threats and have addressed those with technologies that have been customized to fit both the environment and the threat. Some have been examined by FEMA directly and have been praised as being a great use of taxpayer dollars. An example of this is a wide area surveillance system on the Gulf Coast with a command/control system maintaining a wide-area surveillance system. You can read more about it by going to pg.39 of the US Coast Guard's Proceedings of the Marine Safety and Security Council

US-based technology manufacturers, engineers and system integrators play a large role in securing the country and some of the most successful deployments are from small firms partnering to accomplish large missions. They surely will be a viable solution set for this apparent upcoming major security upgrade.

Team AIC stands ready to do our part in the process. As always, you can find out more about our Wide Area Security solutions at
